It all started with a newspaper ad in the fall of 1973, placed by Eddie and Katie Sangid:
STREET RODDERS
We are now forming a new
club. Will be sanctioned by
N.S.R.A. If interested, Call
Eddie at 424-2455.
Eddie placed the ad for a month and received more than 100 phone calls! The Red River Street Rod Association was soon formed and began meeting at the Holiday Inn on North Market Street. As they say “the rest is history”. We were the first Louisiana street rod club and continue to be the longest running, chartered street rod club in the state.
The Club began having Rod Runs and shows in 1973 and has held them continuously ever since. The 36th Annual Rod Run was held 10, 11 April. Click on Photo Archives, 2009 Rod Run for pictures of the event.
In 1975, Eddie and Ed Chopin, then secretary, as well as other members, were instrumental in bringing the World Of Wheels car show to Shreveport. Our association continues to support this annual event. We also enjoy traveling as a group to Rod Runs and Cruise Nights sponsored by ArkLaTex area car clubs.
The Club has always held various activities, including our annual Rod Run, to help support various charitable activities in the Shreveport-Bossier area. Our current charity is the Shreveport Rescue Mission.
If you are a car or truck enthusiast, you are invited to join with us for lots of fun and fellowship. If you have a car or truck you would like to enter into our events, it must be at least 30 years old. Click on the About Our Club - How to Join the RRSRA link for a membership application.
We are currently meeting at Johnny’s Catfish and Seafood restaurant on Bert Kouns at 6:30 pm on the first Tuesday of each month. Bring your completed membership application to one of our meetings and you'll be introduced to our members. We look forward to seeing you!
